Newman wants to give you a gift of a solid album

Newman Rocks the Snow off of Canada
Aug 1, 2004

Not since Brian Adams had a Canadian rocked out so much. Although, I'm slightly poking fun of Adams, this Newman guy will probably end up in the same echelon: the highest for singer/songwriters. Before his solo CD, Newman lent his talents to his band The New Pornographers (YEB 7/1/3), and lifted them from obscurity.

The music is solid in his jam, "Miracle Drug," and his lyrics have a unique take on being a redheaded Canadian.

Another band to look out for in Album of the year contention is Ablulance LTD. This post-punk outfit shows a diverse music-writing ability in their jam, "Anecdote." We'll be seeing these guys at the Grammys.
