"As
Faith May Allow"
Like a train through a tunnel so rushes
my heart
In a direction that only faith can serve as a guide;
For who knows if the tracks have remained intact
When this mountain burrow has come to an end.
Yet speed must be kept, if I’m not to travel alone;
For the cars at the end must follow the engine as it goes,
And will maintain the pace that breaks the wind
With eyes tightly shut and arms dropped to the side.
And if the tracks have collapsed to the river that
Wildly flows below this path that no longer is,
Then I will open my arms as if they were wings
And fly into the depths of what might have been.
