James Stewart as George Bailey in Frank Capra's "It's A Wonderful Life."

We are thinking and feeling beings. However, most of our lives are filled with activity that does not fulfill our urges as humans to wonder, to create and to inspire. It is for that reason that we have the arts. A wonderful combination of self-expression and progressive societal influence is art. Art's magic is found in the process of bringing an idea, the purest point in the realm of thought, to reality, an accepted common ground. Those who accomplish this are truly heroes of humanity.

Everyone is an artist. To create art is to live-to fulfill our human instincts. To enjoy the best of art is to attempt, by some wide-eyed awe, to capture the perfection of life-a perfection that we constantly strive to achieve. Our take on the best will differ from others', but the ideas that are at the base of each piece of art share a goodness and commitment to humanity upon which everyone can agree.

For the opening of our revised site, we at the State of Art have compiled a list of the best in film, music, fine arts, fashion, literature, theater, and architecture. These are the works, the artists and most importantly the ideas that make us love the arts. Enjoy.
