The
old standard of art allowed nudity, but only in certain
contexts (e.g. a painting of a Roman goddess, Venus)
There has been quite a bit
of discussion on nudity recently, more precisely, breast
nudity. The fact that some has-been music artist whose brother
is facing child abuse charges exposes her right breast during
the half-time show of the Superbowl is quite shocking to
many. Others, in Europe and elsewhere might find this humorous,
since every corner magazine shop on the content is sure
to have a stark naked woman visible to all of humanity.
Is the shock warranted? Have we overreacted? Are there other
things which deserve our attention? We, at the State of
Art, have posted three articles concerning nudity and the
female breast in The Thinker. Articles by E.
Robert Morse, Michael
Novak, and J.S.B. Morse
give a well-rounded idea of the issue. Please contact
us to tell us what you think.
