| Simply,
what allows us to make these bold judgments on the world of
art is our sublime love for the arts. Everyone who loves the
arts can agree on that basic ideal. But we are not picking
our favorites or the best of art in very specific categories.
We are picking the best of the best of all time. What gives
us the right?
After
all, we're not aged film critics or art connoisseurs. We haven't
been successful in the fields we are criticizing--yet. But
this is why our lists are so important. We provide an untainted
perspective. And isn't the essence of art based in a pure
passion and love for creativity and imagination?
|
| We
do not build these lists to qualify ourselves as critics. Nor
do we build them to belittle those not on the list. We build
these lists with a blind, innocent love for the arts. And they
need to be created. Art is a constant quest for perfection.
We cannot allow works of art or artists who have achieved this
perfection to go unpraised. We must always be reminded that
it has been done and is possible. |

The criteria
we use might be of interest:
1. Progressive
Societal Influence
This
is quite possibly the only reason for the arts. Everything that
is art should be a statement of some sort--the best must be statements
that bring society to a higher level. The idea of progression may
be tricky--after all, some people consider "American Beauty"
progressive. Progressive influence is influence that betters society
by heightening consciousness, morale and spirit.
2. Creative
Self Expression
This facet of the arts accounts for
all of the imagination, creativity, originality and idealism found
in the arts. "You have to understand something about art,"
says Angelica Graynamore, character in "Joe Vs. the Volcano,
"it comes from some place."
So, relax and
enjoy these thoughts, if you have the time to. When you're done,
we hope you feel immersed in the arts, a sensation matched by none.
